God’s People and His Promises

On Feb. 7 in the Student Center, Lancaster Bible College I Capital Seminary & Graduate School held one of its first People of Promise events as a part of the 2024 Missions Conference. From 3 to 5 p.m., students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in Israeli culture. A highlight of the event was the traditional Israeli food served, including hummus, Israeli salad (which included mainly tomato, onion and cucumber) and falafel (a fried bean dish). To accompany the meal, baklava and lemonade made with mint leaves was served.

“It is encouraging to see that students are passionate about missions,” Julia Tsai, a ’21 LBC | Capital alumna, said. “I appreciated being able to taste the food and listen to the music.”

Other key components of Israeli culture such as fashion, music and games were also a part of the event. People of Promise put specific emphasis on taking time to pray for missionaries not just from Israel, but also in other parts of the world. Canvases were placed on a table away from the festivities for students to place a thumbprint on a country that they were committed to praying for the rest of the year.

“This event made missions come alive in a unique way,” Tsai said.

“Being able to talk to others and just reflect on people in missions and a reminder to pray for missionaries,” Emma Cox, a freshman, said when asked about her favorite part of People of Promise.

Students are encouraged to learn more about the country they are praying for, as well as continue praying for that country for the rest of the year. All in all, People of Promise provided time for freshmen and seniors alike to take a step out of their comfort zones and learn about a different culture.
